Local Companies Join USS New Hampshire Community Commissioning Committee Efforts to "Support Our Submarine"
Portsmouth, New Hampshire (September 17, 2008) - On October 25 the Navy will commission the newest fast-attack Virginia-class submarine - the USS New Hampshire -- at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The USS New Hampshire Community Commissioning Committee is in the midst of planning celebrations to honor the officers, crew, their families and VIP's, along with the visitors expected to gather in Portsmouth for the send-off of the submarine.
The Committee estimates that the cost of the community celebration will be approximately $300,000, based on the experience of other cities who have hosted US Navy Commissioning events. Sponsorships are available at many levels, from $25,000 Marquis Sponsors to $3 donations from individuals who receive an Official USS New Hampshire Commissioning Celebration button in return.
The first Lead Sponsor was Wal-Mart's 27 stores and Raymond Distribution Center who contributed $10,000 to the effort and are providing the venue for sales of the Official Commissioning button.
The Committee is pleased to announce that in addition to Wal-Mart of New Hampshire several sponsors have signed on to the opportunity. Navy contractors Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems are joined by New Hampshire companies All Metals, NH Ball Bearings, Axsys Technologies, Advanced Engineering Systems Division of CACI (Portsmouth), Emerson Process Management, Ocean Bank, Bid2Win, C&J and individuals/organizations including Sean and Kirsten Mahoney, St. Andrew's Masonic Lodge #56, and VFW Emerson Hovey Post #168.
The Official USS New Hampshire Commissioning button is now available at 53 different locations throughout the area and on the website, 3 for $10 (including shipping).
